Dongle Update

From 2008 the ODEON installation comes with a R6 smart dongle. The R6 smart dongle is customized with the name of your company/institution and country to be displayed in the program and on all graphic presentations from the program. You can use the dongle with the ODEON software installation on several computers also on laptops or at your customers offices for a period of time, as long as the license is used by your company/institution with base in one country.
If your R6 smart dongle has a time limitation, this will be removed, when we have insured that you have received the dongle and the invoice has been paid. If you have an old dongle and have paid for an upgrade, we kindly ask you to return the old dongle. When we receive the old dongle, we will send you the update file to remove the time limitation.

There are different features embedded in the dongle, that can be updated online.

  • Version number (the highest version of ODEON which will run)
  • Edition (Update from Industrial or Auditorium to Combined)
  • User name
  • Time limitation

When it is time to update one of these features, you should generate a remote update request file, and send it to sales@odeon.dk.
We will send back an Update file, which you can download to your dongle. If you get an error message see here, like this

 


Generate remote update request file.

In the Tools menu you select "generate a remote update request file", and the following box will show.

Version number

The update for new versions will from version 10 be performed on-line. The check box: Update to the most recent version of ODEON is to be checked, to update for latest version (this will not be necessary until version 10 is released)

Edition

It is not necessary to generate a remote update request file, to upgrade for a better edition. Just send a mail to sales@odeon.dk.

User name

For copy protection your user name and country is embedded in the dongle. If you wish to change your user name you can check the box called: Update user name. The user name can only be updated separately from the other updates. When you send the request file to sales@odeon.dk, you should write the user name you wish in the email


Time limitation

When your dongle is delivered it will probably contain a time limitation. Normally the time limitation can be removed without sending an remote update request, but in some cases it is necessary. Then check the box: Remove time limitation if this has been agreed with Odeon A/S. If it has been agreed to update the time limitation for a number of hours for some reason check the box: Update time limitation and write the number of hours requested. Send the remote update request file to sales@odeon.dk

you can always see how much time is left on your time limitation from Tools|License information. The time limitation only counts hours, when ODEON is in calculation mode.

 

Calculation mode means when ODEON is running jobs from the job list, Quick estimate, Global Estimate, 3DGeometry Debugging, 3DBilliard, Investigate Ray Tracing. If more than one instance of ODEON is performing calculations at the same time, time runs faster. During the modelling process, when using modelling programs, importing geometries, viewing geometries etc. ODEON does not at all use 'hours'


Implement the update file

When you have received the update file from us, you should update your ODEON license by downloading the license update file (.cif) to the dongle. Follow the points below:

  • Extract the license update file from e-mail to your harddisk e.g. to your desktop.
  • Attach your ODEON dongle to the USB port on the PC.
  • Run the ODEON program.
  • Use the Tools|Download license update to dongle menu entry.
  • Select the file using the Select license update file (.cif) dialog (e.g. select User2005_Dongle102009_ODEON Industrial_V5__Restricted_0h.cif).

Error message

The remote update file should be used only once to update the dongle. If you use the update file more than one time you will get the error message shown below. You can see if your dongle have already been updated to the wanted version/time limit etc. by checking the under the menue Tools in License information.

If it is the first time you use the remote update file, and you get the error message anyway, the error can be corrected. You generate and e-mail with a new remote update request file.
