IR Denormalizer app

The IR Denormalizer helps restoring the true relative levels in exported wave files from ODEON. This ensures that the original relative levels of multiple impulse responses are respected

Normally ODEON exports high-precision Impulse Responses (IRs) in various formats, such as binaural (J00), ambisonics (BFormat00), and surround (SurRound00). ODEON automatically normalizes these files upon export, ensuring they fully utilize the dynamic range of the WAV format – thereby avoiding clipping and maximizing audio quality.

While normalization optimizes individual file quality, it removes the crucial, physically accurate level differences between impulse responses. This is vital information when comparing multiple receiver positions, creating multi-channel auralizations, or preparing data for external analysis.

Preservation of relative levels

ODEON seamlessly addresses the preservation of the relative levels by embedding the exact normalization factor within the header metadata of each exported WAV file. The IR Denormalizer reads the IR header metadata and enables automatic bulk rescaling through an efficient batch-processing workflow.

Use cases

The IR Denormalizer simplifies post-processing of WAV files and ensures physically accurate results. Typical uses include:

  • Preparing multi-channel IR sets for physically accurate auralization.
  • Exporting data to external software for detailed acoustic analysis.
