Does ODEON include frequency-dependent scattering?
Yes, scattering can be defined either in terms of precalculated frequency-dependent curves or it can be fully customized across the octave bands by the user (since ODEON 19). Scattering also depends on the size of a surface and the distance between the surface and source/receiver. You may learn more about it in this video tutorial.
Does ODEON work with 1/3 octaves?
ODEON produces results in full octave bands only, according to the ISO 3382 standard. Since version 19, ODEON can accept absorption coefficients and carry out calculations in 1/3 octave bands. However, the final results will still be in full octave bands. Calculating in one-third-octave bands allows ODEON to represent frequency-dependent behaviour occurring within ranges narrower […]
Can I use Odeon for small rooms: music studios, cars, etc.?
The calculation principles applied in ODEON is a combination of high-frequency models such as the image source method and ray-tracing, therefore the validity of results depends on the frequency range of interest, which is typically defined by the Schroeder frequency limit (read more about in the manual). For very low frequencies, ODEON might not be […]
Can ODEON perform outdoor simulations
Yes, to a certain extent. The dimensions of your model can be up to 2 km in each dimension, which should be enough to model a street section or a small city block for instance. In an outdoor scenario, many rays will escape from the model, so you should make sure to use a large […]
Has Odeon been optimized for fast calculations?
Yes, much effort has been put into optimizing the calculation speed of ODEON over the years. It is not possible to mention all techniques implemented, but here are a few examples: ODEON uses a dynamically sized 3D cubenet that stores which surfaces intersect each cube. This allows the program to check only a small portion […]
How does ODEON perform compared with measured results?
You can find information on reliability tests on this page.
What is the difference between the different editions of ODEON?
Odeon exists in four different editions. On this page you can find more information on the different editions. Have a look at the feature sheet and the video.
