Here you can listen to jazz and classical performances in a jazz bar. The multi source auralisation is based on recordings by L’Institut Jean Le Rond d’Alembert. The recordings were carried out in the anechoic chamber of the Sorbonne Université. Static instruments (such as double-bass, cello, and guitar) were recorded with a fixed omni-directional microphone approximately 1 meter away, pointing towards the instrument. Moving instruments (such as violin, viola, and saxophone) were recorded with closely placed miniature microphones mounted on the instruments. The recording setup and procedure is described in more detail in this paper.

Some additional anechoic recordings of speech and miscellaneous noises (such as cutlery) are used in the auralisation, which were recorded by ODEON in an anechoic chamber of the Technical University of Denmark. Only one of each type of recording is used, and variations are generated with ODEON’s AudioFX to create a bar soundscape.

The sources and receivers are shown below. Red dots are sources, with the musicians on the stage, and the rest producing speech. The blue dots are the receiver positions used in the audio examples.

Below you may download an ODEON Zip Archive of this example, which is a packaged ODEON model (for ODEON Auditorium or Combined, 15.15 or newer) containing all the necessary files to run it: room geometry, assigned materials, source and receiver placements, anechoic recordings, etc. The extracted anechoic recordings can then be used for auralisations on any other room model.

To unzip an ODEON Zip Archive:

  1. Launch ODEON
  2. Go to File > Zip > Unzip archive
  3. Select your downloaded ODEON Zip Archive
  4. Select a folder to extract the files

ODEON will then automatically load the room.

These Zip Archives also contain an AudioFX batch file (.afx) to generate extra audio files from the downloaded ones. If using ODEON 16.08 or newer, this batch file will be run automatically. Otherwise, it must be run manually by going to the Tools menu > Audio FX > Open batch file.
